Core Programme

Family Economic
Empowerment

Sponsoring a child is only half the story. TAM's holistic model also invests in the family behind each child — equipping parents and caregivers with the skills and resources to build lasting economic independence.

The Philosophy

A Child's Future Is Built in the Family

TAM believes that true, lasting transformation cannot be limited to the child alone. If a family remains in poverty while a child receives sponsorship, the risk of that child dropping out — or returning to poverty after graduation — remains high.

That is why every TAM sponsorship includes a family economic empowerment component. A portion of each sponsor's monthly gift goes into the family's empowerment fund — used for business training, savings group membership, and livelihood coaching.

The goal is not dependency — it is graduation. TAM works towards the day when a family can stand on their own feet and become contributors to their community.

The Programme

What Family Empowerment Looks Like

Savings Groups (VSLAs)

Families join Village Savings and Loan Associations — learning to save, lend, and invest together in community groups facilitated by TAM.

Business Training

Practical entrepreneurship coaching helps caregivers start or grow small businesses — from market trading to tailoring to poultry farming.

Financial Literacy

Workshops on budgeting, debt management, and financial planning help families make wise decisions with the income they have.

Vocational Skills

Hands-on skills training in trades relevant to the local economy — construction, tailoring, agriculture, and small-scale manufacturing.

Home Stability Coaching

TAM staff visit homes regularly, offering guidance on nutrition, hygiene, child welfare, and household management.

Pastoral Support

Families receive spiritual care, counselling, and community connection — because economic wellbeing and spiritual wellbeing go hand in hand.

The Goal

From Dependency to Dignity

TAM's empowerment model is built on a clear exit strategy. We do not believe in creating perpetual dependency. Every family in the programme works towards a graduation point — where they no longer need TAM's economic support because they have built the skills and resources to thrive independently.

When a family graduates from the programme, they often become advocates and mentors for other families in their community — multiplying the impact of every sponsorship far beyond the original child.
