Educate a
University Child
Your sponsorship takes a gifted young Ugandan from secondary school all the way through university — breaking the cycle of poverty for an entire generation.
The Context
Understanding Uganda's Education System
Uganda's education ladder is a 15-year journey. For most families, the final rung — university — is simply out of reach without external support.
Primary School
7 years · Ages 6–12Children learn reading, writing, numeracy, and basic sciences. Ends with the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE). School fees, uniforms, and materials cost most families 200,000–400,000 UGX per term.
O-Level Secondary
4 years · Ages 13–16Students study 8–10 subjects and sit the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE). Boarding school fees can reach 1,500,000 UGX per term, putting secondary education beyond most rural families.
A-Level Secondary
2 years · Ages 17–18Students specialise in 3 principal subjects and sit the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). This final step qualifies students for university entry and is often where bright students drop out due to cost.
University
3–5 years · Ages 18–23 TAM Sponsors ThisUganda's flagship institutions — Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Gulu University — offer degree programmes in medicine, engineering, education, and more. Government sponsorship is limited; private tuition costs 800,000–3,000,000 UGX per semester.
